I have been using the popular Pushbullet app to see text messages, phone calls, and WhatsApp messages on my computer. As many of you likely know by now, the Pushbullet app can also be used transfer files from your computer to your phone with ease.
Those of you who regularly need to transfer large files, say files over 1GB in size, from computer to phone might like to send files from your PC to your phone without using your data plan. For users who want to wirelessly transfer large size files from your computer to your phone without using your data plan, here is an ideal app for you.
Portal from Pushbullet
Portal is a brand new app from the developers behind widely used Pushbullet. Although Pushbullet and Portal both allow you transfer files from your computer to smartphone, the new Portal app is designed to send large files without using your actual internet connection.
In short, Portal app enables you transfer large files from your computer to phone but both your computer and phone must be on the same WiFi network. This feature is both strength and weakness of Portal app. You can send files without touching your data plan but you can’t send files without connecting your computer and phone to the same Wi-Fi network.
To access all transferred files and folders you transferred using Portal, simply open the Portal app.
At this moment, the app can send files one-way only, from your computer to phone and not vice versa. That said, the team behind Portal is working on this feature and one can transfer files from phone to computer very soon using the Portal app.
Portal app is currently available only for Android. If you’re on iOS, expect the app soon. Visit the following page to know more about the app and download the same.
